The production of Rice has increased from 500 Thousand M. Tonnes in 2008-09 to 561 thousand M. Tonnes in 2011-12.
In Paddy, the SRR has increased from 8.06% (4584 Qtls) in 2008-09 to 16.32% (6000 Qtls) in 2011-12 with target of 25% for Kharif, 2012. Against 4900 Qtls of Paddy seed distributed by the department in Kharif 2010, 6000 Qtls have been distributed in Kharif 2011 and 9000 Qtls are being distributed in Kharif 2012.
In Maize, the SRR has increased from 2% in 2008-09 to 7.08% in 2011-12 with a target of 15.00% for Kharif 2012. As against 334 Qtls of seed distributed by the department in 2008-09 and 2085 Qtls of this seed were distributed in 2011-12 which included 1985 Qtls of hybrid maize seed. For Kharif 2012, 300 Qtls of foundation seed of Maize (composite) is to be distributed for laying of seed villages, besides distribution of 2300 Qtls of Hybrid Maize.
In Potato, the SRR has increased from 3.50% (1867 Qtls) in 2008-09 to 18.53% (6300 Qtls) in 2011-12. Against the distribution of 2500 Qtls in Kharif 2010 the department aspires to meet a target of 8000 Qtls during Kharif 2012.
Likewise, 486 Qtls of Peas seeds have been distributed in 2008-09 with the SRR 6.07%. During Rabi 2011-12, department distributed 1575 Qtls of peas so as to raise the level of the SRR to 19.68%.
In the Rabi season (2008-09), the department distributed 441.20 Qtls of certified class of Wheat seed to the farming community at 14.7 % SRR. During Rabi 2011-12, 1138 Qtls of certified seed has been distributed thereby raising the level of SRR to 37.9%.
In Oilseeds, the SRR has increased from 17.50% during 2008-09 to 33% during 2011-12 by procuring and distributing 1182 Qtls of Oilseed from the seed villages.
The department has achieved a milestone as 33 Kgs of hybrid vegetable seed has been produced in the Seed Multiplication Farm, Dialgam from the parental lines provided by the SKUAST-K. This includes 18 Kgs of tomato while the rest are of capsicum, cucumber and Brinjal. Department is also procuring hybrid vegetable seeds from outside the State to boost the vegetable production.
Against the production of 23 Qtls of Open Pollinated vegetable seeds at departmental S.M. Farms in 2008-09, the production has reached to the level of 37. 50 Qtls during 2011-12 with a target of 40 Qtls in 2012-13.
Potato Seed Farms recorded highest ever yield of 4500 Qtls in 2011-12 with a target of 5700 Qtls in 2012-13.
Cereal production in S.M. Farms has also reached to the level of 1648.80 Qtls in 2011-12 against 1021.60 Qtls in 2010-11with a target of 2000 Qtls in 2012-13
4609 poly Houses (40 M2 Size) covering an area of 368.7 Kanals were provided under protected cultivation in 2011-12 as against 64 Kanals (800 Units) covered in 2009-10 and 52.2 Kanals (653 Units) in 2010-11.
804 numbers of Vermi-compost units were established during 2011-12 as against 59 units during 2008-09 and 205 units in 2010-11.
Distribution of 931 improved Farm Machinery/ implements/ Tools in 2008-09 has increased to12295 in 2011-12. This includes 5000 I.P. Sets, 50 Tractors, 350 Power Tillers, 200 Weeders, 1500 Foot Sprayers, etc. in 2011-12 as against 4020 I.P. Sets, 36 Tractors, 280 Power Tillers, 68 Weeders, 1000 Foot Sprayers, etc. in 2010-11.
1100 farmers were deputed outside the State during 2011-12 on exposure visits for adoption of improved agriculture technologies in their fields (seeing is believing). Besides, 2113 farmers have been provided training on different agriculture activities within the State during 2011-12.
Seven (7) Mega Kissan Melas Cum Exhibition were organized 1st time in far-flung areas of Kashmir Division viz. Gurez (Bandipora), Leh & Kargil (Ladakh Region), Karen, Karna, Machil (Kupwara) and Uri (Baramulla).
During 2011-12, 227 officers have been deputed to various Universities/ Research Institutions within and outside the State to upgrade knowledge and skill about modern agriculture technology. The number of officer deputed during 2008-09 was 45 and 110 in 2010-11.
An area of 15.50 hectares was covered for production of saffron corms in public sector nursery at Allowpora Farm.
Five Agri. Business Centre with back ended subsidy of Rs. 5.00 Lacs per Centre have been established during 2011-12 in the Valley.
DPCs for Non-Gazetted Cadre are being held regularly and 250 promotions were ordered in 2011-12.
Eight (8) Soil Testing Laboratories are already functional. Construction of four (4) Soil Testing Laboratories in newly created districts of Kulgam, Shopian, Bandipora and Ganderbal are under progress. One (1) Mobile Soil Testing Van has been purchased during 2010-11 and two (2) more vans are being procured this year.
In all districts of Kashmir Division, 290 farmers awareness camps were organized during 2011-12.
Rejuvenation / Replanting of 337 hectares of traditional saffron growing area of Pulwama, Budgam, & Srinagar districts with financial incentives of Rs. 18.14 Crores . Rs. 25000 are provided as incentive for rejuvenation per Kanal, 75 % subsidy is provided on fertilizers & Vermi-compost and 50% subsidy is provided on weeder &hot air dryers.
